T-Birds win in OT

I-S boys edge Manawa

A 15-10 advantage in overtime added up to a win for the Iola-Scandinavia boys’ basketball team.

The Thunderbirds improved to 2-0 in the season Nov. 30 with am 89-84 win over Manawa on the Wolves’ home court.

Manawa took a 27-18 lead into the locker room at halftime behind seven points from Jeven Sacthjen.

The T-Birds outscored the home team 56-47 in the second half and the teams entered the four-minute overtime period tied at 74-74.

Connor Kurki led the T-Birds with 28 points, while Justin Sivertson and Charlie Stockwell added 18 and 17, respectively. Stockwell led the T-Birds in rebounds with 15, while Kurki added 14.

Josh Griesbach scored 21 points to lead Manawa and Ethan Wiesner and Sachtjen also finished in double figures with 15 and 11, respectively.
