Driver charged with fleeing police

A suspected pot dealer is accused of reckless endangerment.

Christopher C. Armstrong, 32, Redgranite, is charged with felony possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, first-degree reckless endangerment, fleeing an officer and two counts of felony bail jumping.

According to the criminal complaint, Waupaca County Sheriff’s Deputy Nick Traeger and other members of the Central Wisconsin Drug Task Force arranged a drug deal between a confidential informant and Armstrong.

At about 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19, officers were in the parking lot of the Waupaca Fleet Farm where the CI and Armstrong had planned to meet, the complaint says.

Before the purchase was attempted, however, the officers decided to arrest Armstrong on two active warrants for drug-related cases in Waushara County.

Armstrong was parked on the east side of the lot. As two unmarked squad cars approached his vehicle, Armstrong allegedly fled at a high rate of speed and drove 350 yards to the northwest corner of the parking lot.

Armstrong then ran from his vehicle and dropped a bag of marijuana before he was caught after a 75-yard chase, the complaint says.

Officers reported seizing more than 10 ounces of marijuana from Armstrong’s car and the bag he dropped as he ran.

Armstrong remains in Waupaca County jail on a $2,500 cash bond.
