Q&A with Coach Matt Hintz

By Erik Buchinger

Number of years as head coach: Seventh season.

Returning varsity athletes: Parker Lawrence (10), Jayqon Owens (11), Noah Meyer (12), Mason Thiel (11), Cole Warning (11), Garrett Gloudemans (12), Braden Vallafskey (12).

Team’s strengths: We’re very athletic. We are a team that can get up and down the floor. We’re going to throw four or five guys on the floor typically that can knock down the three. We’re going to try and play at a pace to wear teams down and use our depth as a strength.

Team’s weaknesses: Right now, it’s probably going to be our defense with learning and buying into it. With rebounding, we have some concerns. We have some athletic guys that can play, but we’ve got to be better and got to be tougher when it comes to rebounding the basketball.

Why fans should be excited for this year’s team: We’re going very entertaining. We are going to get up and down the floor and try to play at a helter-skelter pace. I think we’re going to be aggressive defensively when we get it all ironed out. We’ve got some guys that can really get up and down the floor and shoot the basketball. People like to watch those things.
