Bridge work planned on State 22

Local motorists can expect to see crews on three bridges along State Highway 22, perhaps as early as 2019.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation plans to repair the following bridges:

• State 22 over the Crystal River in the town of Dayton.

• State 22 over Wisconsin Central Railrod tracks in the town of Waupaca.

• State 22 over the south branch of the Little Wolf River in the town of Royalton.

WisDOT engineers have found cracking and deterioration of the bridge road surfaces, abutments, the concrete rails and the roadways leading to the bridges.

According to WisDOT, crews will be milling the deck surfaces and overlaying it with concrete and applying a pollymer overlay to the bridge deck surfaces.

They will also mill the approach roadways and overlay with concrete or asphalt.

The most significant project involves replacing the expansion joints on State 22 over the railroad tracks.

All three bridges will be done simultaneously over a two-month period. However, the bridge over the tracks will take three to four months to complete depending on weather.

There are no detours planned as part of the projects.

Motorists can expect to encounter single-lane closures with temporary traffic signals or flagging.

The project was scheduled to begin in 2020, but may be moved up to 2019 based on state budgeting.
