Neuville earns football award

Final UW season ended with injury

By Greg Seubert

Zander Neuville’s final season of football at the University of Wisconsin ended with a season-ending injury, but the Waupaca High School graduate didn’t go home empty-handed from the team’s awards banquet.

Neuville, who was injured in practice in early October, received the Tom Wiesner Award, presented to the Wisconsin-born student-athlete whose loyalty, hard work, spirit and dedication are unselfishly directed to the success of the team.

The team handed out awards at the banquet, held Dec. 7 in Madison.

The Badgers will face Miami in the Pinstripe Bowl at 4:15 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27 at Yankee Stadium in New York City. Both teams are heading into the game with a 7-5 record.

The teams wrapped up the 2017 season in the Orange Bowl, which Wisconsin won 34-24.

Neuville began his career with the Badgers as a defensive end before moving to tight end during the 2016 season.

He played in 39 games; started 12 of them at tight end; and caught nine passes for 81 yards and two touchdowns.
