Sales back in jail

Man on probation arrested for stealing sushi

Scott J. Sales, 29, New London, is charged with felony bail jumping and misdemeanor theft.

At 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, New London Police Officer Brent Seavecki was dispatched to the Festival Foods’ parking lot in response to a disorderly complaint involving Sales.

Seavecki learned a probation hold had been issued for Sales’ arrest.

Prior to taking Sales to jail, Seavecki conducted a search and found a container of sushi concealed under Sales’ jacket.

At the time of his Dec. 8 arrest, Sales was on a $2,000 signature bond.

On Sept. 4, Sales was charged with identity theft, credit card theft and credit card fraud. He had been released on a $2,000 signature bond with the condition he not commit any more crimes.

According to the Sept. 4 criminal complaint, Sales allegedly found a bank card on the floor of a New London convenience store and subsequently made 15 transactions totaling $410 from July 27-30.

The victim told police the transactions drained her and her husband’s checking account.

New London police identified Sales as the person making purchases with the cards by reviewing surveillance video at local stores.

Judge Raymond Huber set a $2,000 signature bond as a condition of Sales’ release from custody on Sept. 4.

However, Sales did not sign the bond and get out of jail until Nov. 29.

Sales is currently charged as a repeater because he was convicted of possession of methamphetamine on Aug. 8, 2017, and placed on three years of probation.

He was convicted of obstructing an officer on May 11, 2017, and placed on one year of probation. His probation was revoked after the meth conviction, and he was sentenced to six months in county jail.

Sales was also convicted of burglary on Jan. 22, 2015, and placed on three years of probation.

His probation was revoked on Aug. 8, 2017, and he was sentenced to one year and six months in state prison. He was released on extended supervision on May 1, 2018.

He is currently in jail on the probation hold.
