Comet wrestlers place at meet

Trio also ranked in state D2 poll

Three Waupaca wrestlers placed at one of Wisconsin’s largest invitationals and are also ranked in a state poll.

Brock Sanger, Kaleb Mannel and Colby Bernhardt placed at the Oshkosh on the Water Wrestling Classic, held Dec. 27-28 at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

The Comets placed 28th out of 67 teams with 114.5 points.

Sanger placed fourth at 195 pounds with a 6-2 record, Mannel placed fifth at 106 with a 5-2 mark and Bernhardt finished eighth at 132 pounds with a 3-3 record.

All three wrestlers were ranked in the top 10 of the wiwrestling.com’s Division 2 state poll released Jan. 3. Sanger is sixth at 195, Bernhardt is seventh at 132 and Mannel is eighth at 106.

Other wrestlers competing at the tournament for Waupaca included John Schmidt, 0-2 (113); Ben Habighorst, 1-2 (120); Damien Pomerenke, 1-2 (138); Ronald Mason, 1-2 (145); Garret Miller, 2-2 (152); Jesse Frisk, 0-2 (160); and Kai Badgley, 2-2 (220).

The Comets will resume their North Eastern Conference dual meet schedule at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, at home against Oconto Falls.
