Driver hurt after striking telephone pole in Liberty

A 21-year-old New London area motorist was injured in a vehicle-versus-telephone pole crash in the town of Liberty on Friday, Jan. 4.

Alcohol appears to be a factor in this crash, Outagamie County Sheriff’s Sgt. William Tedlie stated in a news release.

The Outagamie County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the one-vehicle crash on County Highway S east of Rogers Road at 5:20 p.m.

Sheriff’s deputies determined the vehicle was westbound when it left the roadway and struck the telephone pole.

The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was extricated from the vehicle and flown by ThedaStar to a local hospital. The driver’s injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

The sheriff’s office did not release the driver’s name.

Traffic was detoured for approximately five hours on County Highway M and State Highway 54 due to damage to the telephone pole.

Gold Cross Ambulance, Hortonville-Hortonia Fire District, New London Fire Department and New London Police Department responded to the scene.
