Woman, two cats rescued

Waupaca County deputies removed a 71-year-old woman from a house fire shortly after 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6.

The woman, who was on oxygen, called 911 and reported the fire and that she could not exit the house.

Two deputies were the first to arrive at the scene, at 2313 S. McCrossen Road, in the town of Dayton

They removed the woman. The deputies and the woman were taken to the hospital in Waupaca for further evaluation.

When Waupaca firefighters arrived, they entered the house through the front door and put out a fire in the kitchen that started near the microwave.

A second crew rescued two cats that were in the house.

Although the fire was contained to the kitchen, the house had extensive smoke and minor water damage.

Fire departments fromn Weyauwega, Amherst, Scandinavia and Almond were also at the scene.

The cause of the fire is undetermined and remains under investigation.

Damage to the house is estimated at ab out $45,000.
