Boy Scouts serve New London throughout 2018

Troop seeks more volunteer opportunities

By Casey Jones

“To help other people at all times” is an integral part of the Scout Oath. New London’s Boy Scout Troop 59 scouts, leaders and families are dedicated to ensuring this part of the oath is met throughout the year.

In 2018, New London Troop 59 scouts performed more than 300 hours of service. Whether it be cleaning up litter along local roads or scouting for food for the local pantry, local scouts are willing to help.

The list of service project beneficiaries includes:

  • New London Heritage Historical Society (Rail Fest and Waggin Train Pet Walk events).
  • American Legion Post 263 (Memorial Day service).
  • Adopt-a-Highway program (spring and fall litter cleanup).
  • Salvation Army (holiday bell-ringing).
  • New London Parks and Recreation Department (Hatten Park Haunted Trail event and installation of lifejacket station at Riverside Park boat landing).
  • New London Community Cupboard (Scouting for Food drive collected more than 1,000 items for the food pantry).
  • Mosquito Hill Nature Center (trail cleanup, brush removal and installation of tree house at the natural playscape).
  • Thern Farm (built benches).

St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano (firewood cut and stacked).

Troop 59 seeks service opportunities to help improve the community and assist its residents. Contact Casey Jones, service project coordinator, at 920-450-2257 or [email protected] to suggest projects.
