Kolden Baehman’s big night helped the Weyauwega-Fremont boys’ basketball team pick up its first Central Wisconsin Conference East Division win of the season.

The senior guard scored 20 of his game-high 33 points in the first half of the Indians’ 61-51 win over Wittenberg-Birnamwood Jan. 8.

Baehman and Michael Schalkowski teamed up to score the Indians’ first 13 points. Baehman’s second three-pointer gave the Indians an 18-4 lead and Weyauwega-Fremont led by as many as 22 points before taking a 34-13 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Chargers trailed by as many as 22 points in the second half, but a 13-1 run helped the visitors cut the Indians’ lead to 44-34.

Wittenberg-Birnamwood eventually trimmed the Indians’ lead to 51-45 on Mike Gibson’s free throw with 1:36 to go in the game, but never got any closer, as Baehman hit all six of his free throws in the final minute.

Schalkowski added eight points for the Indians.

Gibson led the Chargers with 18 points, while Ethan Wesolowski and Brendan Resch added 16 and 12, respectively.

The Indians hosted Amherst Thursday, Jan. 10, and will host Rosholt at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15.
