Wolves lose at home

Bessette leads scoring for Manawa

The Manawa Wolves girls’ basketball team suffered a 56-41 nonconference loss to the Shiocton Chiefs at home on Thursday, Jan. 24.

The Chiefs took an early lead in the game outscoring the Wolves 30-15 at the half.

Skylor Bruns led Siocton with 10 points, while Manawa’s Laynie Bessette scored 9 points by sinking 6 of 7 free throws and hitting a 3-pointer in the first period.

Both teams put 26 points on the board in the final period.

Leigha Young scored 6 for the Chiefs, while Bessette sank 8 more points for the Wolves and Kaitlyn Miller and Mikayla Wegener, scored 6 each.

Topping the scoring for Manawa was Bessette with 17, followed by Miller with 8, Wegener and Grace Johnson with 6 each.

Leading the way for Shiocton was Bruns with 14, Young, Emily Korth and Erica Gassner with 7 each.
