Waupaca games rescheduled

By Greg Seubert
Fox Valley Lutheran held the Waupaca girls’ basketball team to 20 points the first time they played this season.

The Comets were able to put up 55 in the North Eastern Conference rematch Jan. 24, but still came out on the short end of a 62-53 score.

A 12-1 run gave Fox Valley Lutheran a 24-8 lead midway through the first half, but the Comets cut the lead to 30-20 on three-pointers from Brenna Barlow and Seattle Lettau in the final minute.

The Foxes led by as many as 16 points in the second half, but Savannah Wehmeyer’s basket brought Waupaca to within six points at 53-47 with just under three minutes to go in the game. The Comets later cut the lead to 55-50 on Olivia Levine’s steal and layup with 1:09 remaining, but the Foxes made their free throws down the stretch and never let Waupaca get any closer.

Lettau and Wehmeyer led Waupaca with 13 points, while Levine added 10 and Barlow finished with nine. Jenna Charron led the Foxes with 18 points.

Waupaca fell to 1-14 overall and 1-13 in North Eastern play, while the Foxes improved to 6-8 overall and 4-7 in the conference.

Waupaca’s most recent games were postponed due to the weather and have been rescheduled. The Comets will host Little Chute at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, before traveling to Clintonville Monday, Feb. 11, for a 7 p.m. rematch with the Truckers.
