Man charged with ID theft

Suspect told police he used the money for drugs.

Dustin K. Arndt, 22, New London, is charged with identity theft, bank card fraud and felony bail jumping.

On Dec. 4, 2018, a 20-year-old woman went into the New London Police Department and reported someone used her debit card without her permission.

She suspected Arndt because he lived with her for two months. She said he had no job but suddenly had money.

She first noticed her money was missing because when she was paying her rent, she discovered her account’s balance was less than it should be.

On Dec. 2, a man used the card at Riverside Mini Mart on North Pearl Street to make a $142 withdrawal.

Security video helped identify the man as Arndt.

According to the criminal complaint, Arndt told police he used the money he withdrew to pay for gas and buy drugs.

Arndt is currently in custody on a $50,000 cash bond for child sex charges that were filed on Jan. 4.

On Dec. 14, 2018, Arndt was convicted of burglary and placed on three years of probation with 90 days in jail. He was given 60 days to report to the jail.
