Trinity hosts concert

Saint John’s University Men’s Chorus will perform at 7 p.m. Monday, March 4, at Trinity Lutheran Church, in Waupaca.

The concert is free and open to the public.

It will take place in the church’s sanctuary.

The choir is under the direction of Dr. Axel Theimer, a native of Austria and former member of the Vienna Boy’s Choir.

Theimer has been on the music faculty at the university in Minnesota since 1969.

The 27-member choir will be performing concerts throughout Wisconsin and Minnesota.

It will also hold workshops at area high schools.

The concert program traditionally features a variety of sacred and secular music, ranging from polyphony of the Renaissance period to masterworks of the 21st century.

This year’s concert will include compositions by Rosephyn Powell, Mitchell Sandler, Ethan Sperry, Anton Bruckner, Naomi Shemer, Hans Leo Hassler, Carl Maria von Weber, Eric William Barnum, Stacey Gibbs and O Mister Moon.

There will be a freewill offering to help defray the choir’s concert production and travel costs.
