Polar Bears to play New London

Macy McGlone scored 25 points as the Polar Bears defeated Lakeland Union 68-42 in the regional championship game on Saturday, Feb. 23.

McGlone said she took advantage of a size disadvantage against Lakeland Union.

“I did have a pretty big advantage this game,” McGlone said. “The other team was not extremely tall. People say I make it look easy, but it’s not easy. I’ve just been doing it a long time.”

The game was close early, but Hortonville went on a run and extended its lead to 27-10 in the first half and went into halftime with a 35-16 advantage.

The Polar Bears continued to add to the deficit in the second half for a 26-point win.

Kammy Peppler and Aliyah Schmidt each finished with seven points for Hortonville, which had 10 players score in the game.

“I feel super excited about it,” McGlone said. “We’ve been winning regionals for a while now, and obviously we get to go to sectionals. After sectionals, it’s state, where everyone wants to get to. It’s really exciting, and I just want to keep going.”

The top-seeded Polar Bears will play No. 2 seed New London in the sectional semifinals on Thursday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. in Kimberly.

“We’ve just got to play our game,” McGlone said. “That’s what we say before every game. Obviously we scout and talk about the other team, but the most important thing is we play our game and play how we need to play.”
