The Polar Bears will compete in the state tournament for the third consecutive season on Friday, March 8 at 1:35 p.m. in a semifinal game against Beaver Dam at Green Bay’s Resch Center.

Hortonville and Beaver Dam matched up in the state semifinal game last season, and Beaver Dam earned a 54-43 win and went on to win its second consecutive state championship.

The winner will advance to the state title game on Saturday, March 9 at 6:35 p.m. to play the winner of Whitefish Bay and Monroe

Sectional Semifinal

The Polar Bears defeated New London in the sectional semifinals 67-42 in Kimberly on Thursday, Feb. 28.

Hortonville jumped out to a 9-0 lead, and Polar Bears’ freshman guard Kammy Peppler scored nine of the Polar Bears’ first 11 points.

“This was super fun,” Peppler said. “The energy and atmosphere was amazing, and this being my first time playing in a sectional, it was so fun.”

Peppler scored 16 points in the first half and finished with a game-high 20.

“Kammy just plays with no fear,” Hortonville head coach Celeste Ratka said. “There’s no moment that’s too big. She just steps up, owns it and loves the big moments. She was the star tonight.”

New London trimmed the lead down to 11-7 after Kate Christian knocked down a 3-pointer from the top of the key, but the Polar Bears never trailed in the game.

“I thought our kids battled and played with tremendous energy,” Ratka said. “Give New London a lot of credit. They have a bunch of really tough guards and made it really tough putting pressure on us. I think our kids settled in for the challenge. They got us a few times, but I think we won a majority of the battles.”

Hortonville’s Macy McGlone finished with 13 points, Aliyah Schmidt scored 11 and Lexi Day added 10 for the Polar Bears.

For New London, Christian and Samantha Pfefferle each finished with 16 points.

“They have a lot of really good seniors on their team,” Ratka said. “They can keep their head held high. They battled and competed the entire game. I give them and the coaching staff a lot of credit.”

Sectional Final
