W-F seeks community input

Survey for school district residents

By Angie Landsverk

The Weyauwega-Fremont School District has started its next strategic planning process and is seeking input from those who live in the district.

A seven-question survey becomes available on the homepage of the district’s website on Thursday, March 7.

“We anticipate some of the feedback will guide us through what the community feels is important right now,” said District Administrator Scott Bleck.

The goal is to get opinions about what the district’s priorities should be for the next three to five years, he said.

“The strategic planning team will take the results and see if there are common themes,” Bleck said.

District residents may access the survey at www.surveymonkey.com/r/FXL5DH5.

Responses are being accepted through Monday, March 18.

Those who want to fill out a paper copy may contact Central Office at 920-867-8811 to make arrangements.

District residents are also receiving a postcard mailing about the opportunity to take the survey.

Gathering feedback from the community was discussed on Feb. 18, during the district’s first strategic planning meeting.

Bleck said about 20 people attended the session.

That evening, Louise Blankenheim introduced the process and format to take the district through the next three- to five-year strategic plan, Bleck said.

Blankenheim, a retired educator, is an organizational consultant for the Wisconsin Association of School Boards (WASB).

WASB helps school districts develop strategic plans.

“The model strategies she presented are the ones other school districts around the state used,” he said.

During last month’s meeting, attendees identified the district’s strengths, opportunities, aspirations and results, Bleck said.

“It just creates a starting point for our team to look at,” he said.

Bleck sees a strategic plan as a critical element for how the district functions.

The school board approved a five-year strategic plan just over five years ago.

A long-range facility study was one of its results.

HVAC projects followed and then the decision to address needs at the high school.

That plan expired on Jan. 1.

Bleck said the district wants to meet the needs of its students today and in the future, use the community’s resources appropriately and represent what those who live here value most.

Four more sessions are planned.

They are set for March 21, April 11, April 29 and May 16.

Each one begins at 6 p.m., in the middle school library.

Those interested in participating in the process may contact Bleck at 920-867-8810.

“The goal is to have the strategic plan in place by the beginning of the 2019-20 school year,” he said.
