Suspect charged with more sex crimes

Man allegedly downloaded child porn two days after his release from prison.

David R. Thurber, 38, is charged with using a computer to facilitate child sex crimes and possession of child pornography.

He is currently residing at Dodge Correctional Institution because his extended supervision for prior convictions was revoked.

On Dec. 3, 2018, Waupaca County Detective Sgt. Tim Myers did forensics analysis of a cellphone used by Thurber.

Myers reported finding five images of child porn.

Thurber was released from prison on Oct. 26, 2018. The first image dates back to Oct. 28, 2018.

According to the criminal complaint, Thurber also exchanged Snapchat messages with three girls who identified themselves as ages 12, 13 and 14.

Thurber allegedly first contacted the girls through “The Monkey,” an app that has numerous safeguards to protect children from predators.

Thurber encouraged the girls to communicate with him on Snapchat, the complaint says.

“Based on the activity observed on the mobile device, it is apparent that David Thurber is utilizing social media and chat applications to target children on the internet and exchange inappropriate content,” the complaint says.

Investigators also reported finding multiple images of Thurber’s genitals on the cellphone.

Thurber was charged this past January with child sex crimes involving a 15-year-old Manawa girl.

His prior convictions include narcotics possession in Winnebago County, felony marijuana possession in Outagamie County and fourth-degree sexual assault in Waupaca County.
