Waupaca extends school year

The Waupaca School Board voted Friday, March 15, to add an extra day of school this year.

The final day for all students will be Friday, June 7, instead of June 6.

After spring break, classes will start eight minutes earlier for Waupaca High School students. They will start at 7:47 a.m., beginning Monday, March 25. All other grade levels remain unchanged.

WHS students will also remain in class until 2:24 p.m. Wednesdays, beginning March 27. All other grade levels remain unchanged.

Students missed six full days of school, and there were two days with a two-hour late start due to snow and ice this winter.

The high school was projected to have 15.6 hours less than the 1,137 required hours of instruction.

The eight minutes every morning will recoup seven hours, the 24 minutes every remaining Wednesday will recoup four hours, and the extra day will recover 6.75 hours.

To compensate for lost time, the teachers’ last day will be Monday, June 10.

They will also need to work two days in the summer prior to Aug. 5.
