The Weyauwega-Fremont Theatre Department will present “Beauty and the Beast” from March 29-31, in the high school’s new Performing Arts Center.

“We are very fortunate to have a new facility to perform in this year. We are able to do so much more in this space than ever before and cannot wait to present it to the community who made this happen,” said Molly Suehs, the show’s director.

The Friday and Saturday performances will begin at 7 p.m. and the Sunday performance at 2 p.m.

Tickets may be reserved at wfsd.ticketleap.com/beauty-and-the-beast and by emailing [email protected] or calling 920-867-8942.

People may also purchase tickets at the door.

The cost is $3 for adults and $1 for students and children.

“Since this is the first musical in the new Performing Arts Center, we knew that it had to be a big show that would allow us to use the facility to its fullest potential,” Suehs said.

W-F High School seniors Saylor Alberts and Alex Lederer are excited.

“I think it’s kind of an honor as a senior to be able to experience it. I’m extremely grateful. To be able to sing on this stage before I graduate is awesome,” said Alberts.

She portrays Madame DeLa Grande Bouche in the musical.

Alberts has been involved in the program throughout high school.

She was also cast in high school’s production of “The Sound of Music” when she was in sixth grade.

“Beauty and the Beast” is a popular musical, Alberts said.

“I’m excited to be part of it,” she said.

Lederer’s role in the musical is Gaston.

He said there is a night and day difference between the school’s old space for performances and its new one.

“We had what I considered to be a rundown stage,” Lederer said. “Now we have something professional.”

The musical choice attracted a number of students to the stage this year.

They are working to make “something magical,” he said.

Also cast in leading roles were Twyla Alix (Babette), Josh Barnett (Lumiere), George Brunk IV (Maurice), Parker Elandt (baker), Padriac Hickey (Beast), Destiny Kempf (Belle), Cora Lederer (Madame D’Arque/silly girl), Alicia Lederhaus (silly girl), Katie Loehrke (narrator/aristocrat), Chandler Logan (Cogsworth), Lilly Mueller (Mrs. Potts), Ellie Pomrening (Chip), Hannah Timm (silly girl) and Matthew Zeichert (LeFou).

Molly Stillwell is the assistant director, and Andrew Schmidt is the pit director.

Joe Gruentzel is in charge of scenery, and Patrick Martin handles the lighting and sound.

Alex Bartel is the alumni director.

The Sunday, March 31 matinee will be preceded by a Royal Tea Party in the high school commons.

A fundraiser for the W-F Drama Club, it will begin at noon and include a light lunch of tea sandwiches, scones, desserts, hot tea and lemonade.

The “Beauty and the Beast” cast will be the greeters and servers.

Tickets for the tea party are $15. They are sold separately from the musical.

Tea party tickets may be purchased by emailing [email protected] or calling 920-867-8942.

Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Formal attire is encouraged, and there will be the opportunity for a royal makeover, which includes nail polish, body jewelry and a tiara hair piece.
