Waupaca gets first softball win

Seven batters had a hit as Waupaca’s softball team picked up its first win of the season, a 5-3 nonconference decision over Iola-Scandinavia April 2 at Waupaca High School.

Winning pitcher Ireland Grenlie held the Thunderbirds to three hits while striking out eight battters.

Waupaca improved to 1-2 on the season and will open North Eastern Conference play at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 4, by hosting Fox Valley Lutheran. The Comets will also host Oconto Falls at 4:30 p.m. Friday, April 5, in another matchup of North Eastern teams.

The T-Birds fell to 0-3 and will host Westfield at 4:30 p.m. April 5.

They were originally scheduled to open their Central Wisconsin Conference East Division schedule Monday, April 8, at home against Amherst, but that game has been rescheduled for Thursday, May 2.

The division opener is a home game with Menominee Indian at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 9.
