Kempf to wrestle in college

W-F senior heading to Indiana Tech

By Greg Seubert

Justin Kempf’s wrestling career will last for a few more years.

Indiana Tech, one of the nation’s top NAIA wrestling programs, has recruited the Weyauwega-Fremont High School senior, who signed his National Letter of Intent April 3 in Weyauwega.

Kempf is the second Weyauwega-Fremont senior to be recruited to wrestle. Teammate Cian Fischer is headed to Davidson College’s Division 1 program in Davidson, North Carolina.

Kempf wrapped up his high school career in February at the WIAA State Individual Wrestling Championships in Madison by placing fourth in Division 3 at 132 pounds.

The three-time state qualifier had a 160-27 record in high school. His 82 pins are the third-most in program history behind Fischer and Brian Loehrke.

Indiana Tech competes in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference, made up of 12 schools in Ohio, Michigan and Indiana.

The Warriors recently placed fourth at the NAIA National Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, and had two individual national championships and five All-Americans.

The team now has four straight top-10 finishes at the national championships, including two top-five places in the last four years.

Kempf is the son of Jennifer Stephens and Joe Kempf of Weyauwega.
