Trout coming to area waters

Fish to arrive by May 4 inland opener

Trout anglers heading to local waters for the first day of Wisconsin’s inland fishing season will find more fish.

The state Department of Natural Resources plans to stock several streams, rivers, ponds and lakes throughout Wisconsin with nearly 600,000 brook, brown and rainbow trout in time for the Saturday, May 4, season opener.

Those fish include yearling, large yearling and adult fish. Area waters scheduled to receive stocked fish are:

• Waupaca County: Bass Lake: 75 adult browns and 763 yearling rainbows; Little Long Lake: 495 yearling rainbows; Mirror Lake: 804 yearling rainbows; Pigeon River: 536 yearling rainbows; Skunk Lake: 560 yearling rainbows; and Waupaca River: 380 adult browns and 1,654 yearling rainbows.

• Waushara County: Johns Lake: 2,445 yearling browns and 1,956 yearling rainbows; Long Lake: 4,256 yearling browns; Lyman Lake: 552 yearling browns and 442 yearling rainbows; Redgranite Quarry: 235 yearling browns and 188 yearling rainbows; and Spring Lake: 1,340 yearling browns and 1,072 yearling rainbows.

• Portage County: Adams Lake: 1,005 yearling browns; Spring Lake: 1,339 yearling rainbows; Springville Pond: 964 yearling rainbows; Sunset Lake: 1,607 yearling rainbows; and Thomas Lake, 1,339 yearling rainbows.

• Outagamie County: Appleton Memorial Park Pond: 500 yearling rainbows.

• Shawano County: Homme Pond: 969 yearling rainbows; Korth Lake: 589 yearling rainbows; Middle Branch, Embarrass River: 1,929 yearling rainbows; Embarrass River, North Branch: 236 yearling browns; Oconto River: 2,160 large fingerling browns; and Red River: 804 yearling rainbows.

• Winnebago County: South Park Pond: 405 yearling brookies and 268 yearling rainbows.
