Mares, Aaron L.

Aaron L. Mares, age 34 of Clintonville, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 in the Township of Bear Creek.

Aaron Lee Mares was born February 5, 1985 in New London to Terry L. Mares and Jeanne (Klegin) Rohloff. He attended Clintonville High School and graduated with the class of 2003. Aaron continued to work on the Mares family farm and later also worked as a mechanic for Len Ebert & Sons, Town of Bear Creek. He loved farming with his dad and was a great asset to the operation; often coming up with new ideas or ways to make things more efficient. Aaron loved to operate the combine when it would come time to do custom harvesting in the fall; his attention to detail while in the combine was very evident to both his father and their customers. In his spare time, Aaron liked to hunt, fish, and just be outdoors. He also loved motorsports; snowmobiling in the winter, lawn mower racing at GSR Kartway, and garden tractor pulling with Cross County Line Pullers. He also liked to cook and wasn’t afraid to go “all-in” with a recipe or a new cooking technique. Aaron was a guy who would always go out of his way to help others at work on the farm, in the shop, or with special projects at church. Although he didn’t have any children of his own, Aaron was the favorite uncle in the family who also became a strong father-figure after his brother-in-law passed away. His patience, understanding, and way of speaking with his niece and nephews really stood out and left a lasting impression. Aaron will be remembered for his big smile, his fix anything MacGyver skill set, and the love he had for family and friends.

Aaron is survived by his parents, Terry L. Mares, Clintonville and Jeanne (Mike) Rohloff, Marion; sister: Melissa Smith, Marion; brother, Andy (Tabby) Mares, Bear Creek; stepsister, Molly (Ty) Stepniewski, Stillwater, MN; a niece, Bailey Mares and nephews, Elijah and Isaiah Smith and Corbin Mares. He also leaves behind, his canine companions: Molly, Katie, and Gretchie. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Leona and Bernard Mares, and Louie and Dixie Klegin; as well as a brother-in-law, Jermaine Smith.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bear Creek, with the Fr. John “Jack” Mullarkey and Deacon Lincoln Wood officiating. Interment will take place in the parish cemetery following the service. Friends may call from 4 – 8 p.m. on Monday, April 22, 2019 at the Eberhardt-Stevenson Funeral Home & Crematory, Clintonville, and again on Tuesday at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
