Walking for hope, in memory

Event remembers loved ones lost to suicide

The Waupaca County Suicide Prevention Coalition held its third annual Walk for Hope, Walk in Memory on April 27, at Swan Park.

A total of 231 people participated in the event.

Its Resource Fair included Bikers Against Child Abuse, Catalpa Health, Insight Counseling, National Suicide Awarenes, New London High School’s Sources of Strength, the Waupaca County Veterans Service offfice and the Waupaca County Suicide Prevention Coalition.

The coalition received support for the event from Farmers State Bank of Waupaca, the Iola Lions Club, Waupaca Park and Rec, the Waupaca Area Community Foundation, Crystal River Inn – Paul and Shayna Cappelle, and Waupaca Mobil Travel Center – the Klismet Family.

The speakers were Jen Lubinski and Jessie Jenson.

This year’s event also included a time for remembrance prior to the walk.

Early and pre-Registrations allowed families and friends to send in names of loved ones they have lost by suicide.

The coalition received 22 names prior to the event from early and pre-registration and added 12 additional names on the day of the event.
