Makeup underway for snow day

The Clintonville School Board approved an administration recommendation to extend school hours by 10 minutes per day at the middle school and high school.
The snow day on April 11 that canceled school made it necessary to change the schedule with the amount of hours needed through the rest of the school year.
“We talked about this last week with our administrative team, and we have to make up the 420 minutes we lost on April 11,” Superintendent David Dyb said at the April 22 board meeting. “As you know, this is done by hours of instruction now.”
The school added five minutes before and after previous school hours. Regular school days will run from 7:55 a.m. until 3:20 p.m.
This began on Monday, April 29, and will run through the rest of the 2018-19 school year, which ends on June 6.
In addition, June 6 was approved to be a full day of school instead of the originally planned half day.
“The last day of school was June 6 and for the students, we’d like to still make it June 6,” Dyb said.
Dyb said this option will not impact bus times at the middle or high school.
Rexford-Longfellow Elementary School will not have a change in its daily schedule except for the full day on June 6, which was originally a half day for the elementary.
“The determination is it only impacted a few support staff where they have to shift their day five minutes later for supervision at the end of the day,” Dyb said. “For teachers, there is no impact as part of their instructional day.
“The big thing I was worried about was busing and support staff, but it shouldn’t impact that too greatly.”
The board approved the decision 5-0 with Kris Strauman and Jim Schultz absent.
