Track regionals set for May 20

State meet to be held in La Crosse

The road to the WIAA State Track and Field Championships begins Monday, May 20, with regional competitions around the state in three divisions.

Area teams will head to a Division 1 regional in Kimberly; Division 2 regionals in Berlin or Oconto Falls; and Division 3 regionals in Rosholt or Hilbert.

Hortonville will compete at the Kimberly Regional, which starts at 3:30 p.m. at Kimberly High School and also includes teams from Appleton East, Appleton North, Appleton West, Kaukauna, Kimberly, Menasha and West De Pere.

Waupaca will join teams from Amherst, Berlin, Little Chute, Omro, Wautoma, Westfield/Mondello, Winneconne and Xavier at the Berlin Regional, which gets underway at 4 p.m. at Berlin High School.

Clintonville and New London will head to Oconto Falls High School for the Oconto Falls Regional, which also includes Bonduel, Fox Valley Lutheran, Freedom, Marinette, Oconto Falls, Peshtigo and Seymour. Field events will start at 3:45 p.m. and running events will begin at 4:30 p.m.

Iola-Scandinavia, Manawa and Weyauwega-Fremont will compete with Almond-Bancroft, Assumption, Pacelli, Pittsville, Port Edwards, Rosholt, Tri-County and Wild Rose at the Rosholt Regional. Field events will start at 4 p.m. and running events will begin at 4:45 p.m. at Rosholt High School.

Marion will travel to Hilbert High School for the Hilbert Regional, which also includes Hilbert/Stockbridge, Lourdes Academy, Oneida Nation, St. Mary Catholic, St. Mary’s Springs, Shiocton, Tigerton, Valley Christian, Winnebago Lutheran and Wolf River Lutheran. Field events will begin at 3:30 p.m., followed by running events at 4:15 p.m.

Sectionals
The top four finishers in each regional meet will advance to their respective sectional Thursday, May 23.

Hortonville’s qualifiers will advance to the Ashwaubenon Sectional, which starts at 4 p.m. at St. Norbert College in De Pere.

Qualifiers from Waupaca, Amherst, Clintonville and New London will head to Freedom High School for the Freedom Sectional. Field events will start at 3 p.m. and running events will begin at 3:45 p.m.

Qualifiers from Iola-Scandinavia, Manawa, Weyauwega-Fremont, Wild Rose, Almond-Bancroft and Marion will travel to Marathon High School for the Marathon Sectional. Field events will start at 3:30 p.m., followed by running events at 4:15 p.m.

The first three finishers in each event from each Division 1 sectional and the first four finishers in division 2 and 3 will qualify for the state meet, set for Friday and Saturday, May 31 and June 1, at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in La Crosse.
