Golfers head to regionals

Teams to compete in divisions 2, 3

Area boys’ varsity golf teams will open WIAA postseason play Tuesday and Wednesday May 21-22, with regional meets in divisions 2 and 3.

Waupaca and New London will join Berlin, Fox Valley Lutheran, Little Chute, Omro, Ripon, Wautoma/Wild Rose, Winneconne and Xavier at a Division 2 regional May 22. Golfers will tee off at Mascoutin Golf Club near Berlin at 9 a.m.

Amherst and Clintonville will compete with Bonduel, Marinette, Menominee Indian/Gresham, Mosinee, Oconto Falls, Peshtigo, Seymour and Wittenberg-Birnamwood May 21 at Golden Sands Golf Club in Cecil. Bonduel is hosting the meet, which starts at 9 a.m.

The top four teams and top four individuals not on a qualifying team will advance to the Mosinee Sectional, set for 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, at Indianhead Golf Course in Mosinee. That meet will also include qualifying teams and individuals from the Luxemburg-Casco Regional.

Manawa, Iola-Scandinavia and Weyauwega-Fremont will compete in two Division 3 regionals May 21.

Manawa and Iola-Scandinavia will join Assumption, Colby, Marathon, Newman Catholic, Owen-Withee, Pacelli, Port Edwards and Wisconsin Valley Lutheran at the Marathon Regional, which starts at 9 a.m. at Pine Valley Golf Course in Marathon.

Qualifying teams and individuals from the Marathon, Wabeno/Laona and Oneida Nation regionals will head to Hunter’s Glen Golf Club May 28 for the Crivitz Sectional, which starts at 9 a.m.

Weyauwega-Fremont will head to the Rock River Country Club in Waupun for the Central Wisconsin Christian Regional, which gets underway at 8:30 a.m. and will also include teams from Central Wisconsin Christian, Lourdes Academy/Valley Christian, Markesan, Montello, Oakfield, Princeton/Green Lake, St. Mary Catholic, St. Mary’s Springs and Stockbridge/Hilbert.

Qualifying teams and individuals from the Central Wisconsin Christian, Sheboygan Area Lutheran and Catholic Central regionals will advance to the Markesan Sectional, set for 9 a.m. May 28 at The Golf Courses of Lawsonia in Green Lake.

The top two teams at sectional meets and the top three individuals not on a qualifying team will advance to the WIAA state meet, set for Monday and Tuesday, June 3-4, at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison.
