Comet girls place third at home track meet

The final home meet of the season turned out to be a good one for the Waupaca boys’ track team.

The Comets won a quadrangular with Oconto Falls, Clintonville and Seymour May 16 at Comet Field. Meanwhile, the Waupaca girls placed third.

Team scores for the boys were Waupaca (106 1/2), Oconto Falls (64 1/2), Clintonville (46 1/2) and Seymour (39.5). Oconto Falls won the girls’ title with 96 points, followed by Clintonville (65), Waupaca (55) and Seymour (23).

Firsts for the Waupaca boys went to Terry Schmidt, 100-meter dash (11.56); Abram Jackson, 800-meter run (2:13.21); Sam Nikolai, 110-meter hurdles (18.48); Colby Nimmer, 300-meter hurdles (45.56); James Sternweis, shot put (45 feet, 5 inches); Alex Orr, discus (129 feet, 3 inches); Christian Pomerenke, high jump (5 feet, 10 inches); the 400-meter relay team (Dawson Patzke, Orr, Aiden Rollins and Craig McCourt) (46.98); the 1,600-meter relay team (Nimmer, Caleb Studzinski, Orr and Camryn Borland) (3:47.96); and the 3,200-meter relay team (Nimmer, Forrest Ziebell, Borland and Studzinski) (9:08.6).

Leota Studzinski won the girls’ 1,600-meter run with a time of 7:07.57 and joined Brooke Hansen, Justine Panzenhagen and Charlotte Buchman on the winning 3,200 relay team, which turned in a time of 13:20.69.
