Golfers advance to sectional

Waupaca, Manawa teams move on

Two area boys’ golf teams and one individual will compete in a WIAA sectional meet Tuesday, May 28.

Manawa placed second at a Division 3 regional meet May 21 at Pine Valley Golf Course in Marathon and Waupaca tied for third May 22 at a Division 2 regional at Berlin’s Mascoutin Golf Club.

Meanwhile, Weyauwega-Fremont’s Logan Kicherer qualified as an individual May 21 out of a Division 3 regional at Waupun’s The Rock Golf Club.

Division 3
Marathon Regional

Two top-10 finished helped the Wolves place second out of seven teams.

Pacelli won the meet with a 353, followed by Manawa (398), Marathon (408), Newman Catholic (414), Assumption (415), Owen-Withee (422) and Colby (437).

Manawa’s Peyton Schuelke finished second with a 79, while teammate Zach Kriesel finished ninth with a 95.

Other scores for the Wolves included Colin Moser (26th, 109); Nate Reynolds (28th, 111); and Gibson Bailey (39th, 125).

Iola-Scandinavia sent three golfers and did not field a complete team. Xander Gambsky tied for 29th with a 112; Collin Davids placed 33rd with a 115; and Garrett Brown placed 42nd with a 142.

Manawa’s team joined Pacelli, Marathon and Newman Catholic at the Crivitz Sectional at Hunter’s Glen Golf Club.

Central Wisconsin Christian Regional

St. Mary’s Springs, Markesan, St. Mary Catholic and Princeton/Green Lake qualified for the Crivitz Sectional by turning in the top four team scores in Waupun.

St. Mary’s Springs won the meet with a 358, followed by Markesan (373), St. Mary Catholic (389), Princeton/Green Lake (393), Lourdes Academy/Valley Christian (421), Weyauwega-Fremont (449), Central Wisconsin Christian (457) and Montello (490).

Kicherer carded a 100 and tied for 12th with Lourdes Academy/Valley Christian’s Peter Chartier to qualify as an individual.
Other scores for Weyauwega-Fremont were Logan Witt and Brody Arndt (tied for 29th, 113); and Dylan Wilson and Ryan Ames (tied for 36th, 123).

Division 2
Berlin Regional

Waupaca tied with Little Chute for third place with a score of 365 to advance to the Mosinee Sectional at Indianhead Golf Course.

Little Chute defeated the Comets 18-21 in a playoff to determine third place.

Xavier won the meet with a 337, followed by Winneconne (359), Waupaca and Little Chute (365), Fox Valley Lutheran (385), Berlin (392), Omro (395), Ripon (399), New London (403) and WAutoma/Wild Rose (427).

The Comets had two individuals place in the top 10. Eli Bartel turned in a round of 81, two strokes behind medalist Charlie Schubbe of Xavier to place second, while Asher Wright carded an 88 to tie for ninth with Xavier’s Max Metropulos and Will Hodgkiss.

Waupaca’s Mitchell Trzebiatowski tied for 23rd with Omro’s Brenden Retzlaff and Ripon’s Sam Yeomans and Jackson Morrin with a 96; Tyler Simpson placed 33rd with a 100; and Ethan Johnson shot a 119 to finish 48th.

The top two teams and top three individuals not on a qualifying team from each sectional will participate in the state meet, set for Monday and Tuesday, June 3-4, at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison.
