Commencement for Class of 2019

By Holly Neumann

The Iola-Scandinavia High School Class of 2019 commencement motto was “I am ready to face any challenge foolish enough to face me” by Dwight Schrute.

Class President Noah Olson reminded parents that they too were teachers to the students, but along the way the students were teachers for their parents as well.

“We were born as a ball of clay,” Olson said during the May 26 commencement. “Even though you may have dropped us a few times along the way, you have shaped us to what we are today.”

Olson saidt the class has left their individual marks everywhere.

“Today is our day,” he said. “It’s time to show the world what we can do, thanks to the help and support of Iola-Scandinavia High School.”

Valedictorian Charlie Stockwell encouraged his classmates to leave a legacy.

“This end signifies a new beginning,” he said. “In order to leave a legacy, we have to look inward for our desire to learn and our ability to serve others.”

Stockwell added that this does not mean that they have to be perfect.

“It means we should all try to do our best, produce good work and stand up for what is right,” he said.

District Administrator Ray Przekurat told that class 2019 that leadership, a positive attitude and team work are three skills that they already have.

“This group has already shown that they are great leaders and great role models,” he said. “This year has not been the easiest of years, but not once have I heard this class say anything negative.”

From DECA to Quiz Bowl and even sports teams, this class has excelled at everything they have done, Przekurat said.

“No one can accomplish what this class has accomplished without team work,” Przekurat said. “This group of seniors has been committed to the task of being extremely outstanding.”
