Clintonville road projects begin next week

12th, Robert streets set to be reconstructed

By Bert Lehman

The complete reconstruction of 12th Street, from Main Street to the Hemlock Street Bridge, and Robert Street, from 14th to 16th streets, is scheduled to begin the first week of June.

This includes reconstruction of the road, storm sewer, water lines and wastewater laterals, curb and gutter, and sidewalks where there are existing sidewalks.

During the reconstruction there will be limited access to Robert Street during the day.

“We may have to shut down parts of it briefly,” Clintonville City Administrator Sharon Eveland said.

Due to the nature of some of the utilities underneath 12th Street, that street may be shut down more often during the project.

The total cost of the project is about $2 million. The city has secured a $500,000 grant from the Community Development Block Grant Program to help pay for the project.

Eveland said the city is in the process of trying to secure additional grant money to cover water and wastewater costs associated with the project.

An informational meeting took place on Thursday, May 23, at the Clintonville Community Center, where the public was briefed on what the project will entail and the anticipated schedule.

“The intent is to hold these a couple of times throughout the project,” Eveland said.

The project is expected to be completed by Oct. 15.
