Farm market season begins

Grand opening set for June 29 in Waupaca

By Angie Landsverk

The Waupaca Farm Market is back for its season.

It is held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays June through October.

Vendors set up in front of Waupaca’s public library and city hall.

Lindsey Pietrzak is the market’s new manager.

“Having a market manager helps promote our farmers and brings our community together,” she said.

Some vendors began selling items a few weeks ago.

The market officially opens on Saturday, June 1, Pietrzak said.

She expects to see vendors selling such things as asparagus, greens, vegetable seedlings, baked goods, eggs, craft items, meat, potted herbs and personal hygiene items that day.

“The grand opening celebration will be on June 29,” she said.

That day, Carousel Gymnastics is at the market from 10 a.m. to noon.

Ed Lemar is set to be on the bandstand at 11 a.m., providing family entertainment.

Living the Waupaca Way plans to also have activities for children.

“We will have a door prize drawing for farm market gift certificates,” Pietrzak said.

Other activities are also planned, with most taking place from 10 a.m. to noon.

Events Schedule

• Chloe J. Dance Class on June 22.

• Waupaca Recreation Center staff on July 20.

• Kite making with Marty Maciejewski on July 27.

• Yoga on Aug. 10.

• Cardio drumming on Aug. 24.

• River Valley Marionette Troupe show from 10-11 a.m. on Aug. 31.

• Sky’s Martial Arts Academy demonstration from 11 a.m. to noon on Sept. 14.

New this year is a booth for nonprofits wanting to get the word out about what they do, said Pietrzak.
There is no cost for them.

Groups interested in the space may email her at [email protected] or call her at 715-258-4433 or 715-467-7238.

The city is again providing office space in City Hall for the market manager.

Pietrzak’s office hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursdays.

Her goals this season are to support local farmers, legitimize the market as it grows and build community around the vendors and customers.

Pietrzak loves being outside.

She has a degree in archaeology from Ripon College and is the garden educator at Tomorrow River Community Charter School.

Her background includes working at Prairie Nursery in Westfield and at an area garden center.

“I enjoy playing in the dirt,” she said.
