All-conference teams announced

Thunderbirds have players of year

Iola-Scandinavia and Weyauwega-Fremont placed several players on the Central Wisconsin Conference East Division’s all-conference softball and baseball teams.

Iola-Scandinavia’s Mackenzie Kielblock and Carter Kurki were named the top softball and baseball players, respectively, after helping lead their teams to a division championship and a trip to the WIAA sectionals.

Kielblock, a junior, made the softball first team, along with Iola-Scandinavia junior Hannah Melum and Weyauwega-Fremont junior Julia Rice.

Players on the second team include Weyauwega-Fremont sophomore Ashley Johnson, Weyauwega-Fremont junior Taylor Folk and Iola-Scandinavia sophomore Katie Cherek.

Iola-Scandinavia senior Emily Wolfgram received honorable mention, along with two Weyauwega-Fremont players: freshman Anna Meyer and senior Rylee Bartel.

Kurki, a senior, is one of three Thunderbirds to make the first team in baseball, along with junior Connor Kurki and senior Bryce Huettner.

Second-teamers include Weyauwega-Fremont seniors Easton Groskreutz and Kolden Baehman and three Iola-Scandinavia players: senior Alex Sharp, junior Justin Sivertson and sophomore Marcus Jaworski.

Weyauwega-Fremont senior Tyler Wetzel, Iola-Scandinavia senior Kellan Wandtke and Iola-Scandinavia junior Brock Gullixon received honorable mention.

Iola-Scandinavia’s Pete Timdal was named baseball coach of the year.
