Blood drive honors donor

The Community Blood Center will hold the Lisa Gerrits Memorial Blood Drive on Friday, July 19, in Waupaca.

It will take place from 9 a.m. to noon, in the former Riverside Elementary School, at 950 Park Ave.

The public is invited to attend and donate.

Gerrits was a blood donor who had a personal goal of donating a specific number of units of blood in her lifetime.

After an illness, her health declined to the point that she could no longer donate.

A blood drive took place in her honor last summer.

All the donations counted toward her goal, which was met and surpassed.

She received a plaque marking her donation achievement.

Gerrits died last August.

Her family and friends continue to remember her generosity.

“Lisa was a selfless person, always thinking of others,” said Jane Shea, the ThedaCare Hospice volunteer coordinator and her friend. “Hosting the blood drive last year and donating on her behalf was a way that we could continue her kindness.”

The ThedaCare Family of Foundations Hopes and Dreams program is providing snacks and water for this next blood drive.

Through the generosity of donors, the Hopes and Dreams program supports hospice patients and their families.

People may help support its financial needs online at thedacare.org/donate or by sending contributions to ThedaCare Family of Foundations, 1818 N. Meade St., Appleton, WI 54911.
