Construction of the new Waupaca County highway facility remains on schedule.

The 109,000-square-foot facility is scheduled for completion on Oct. 19.

The project began in August 2018.

The general contractor, Miron Construction Co., provides monthly progress reports to the county.

By October 2018 all permits were in place, and the bids had been approved.

Excavation and utility site preparation began, sewer tie-ins were completed and one-quarter of the concrete footings were in place.

By December 2018, the concrete foundations were completed. Steel erection began and load bearing masonry was underway for the precast floor panels.

According to Miron’s July report, the building’s exterior brickwork was complete and the aluminum windows are currently being installed.

Installation of metal walls and metal roofing were completed.

We Energies had extended electric service to the building and the power is turned on.

The facility has an electric generator in case the power goes out.

The fuel island and equipment were set in place.

The cold storage building was completed.

Interior painting is nearly complete in the administrative section, fabrication and service shops, and vehicle garage.

“There were 23 subcontractors and half are already done and out of there,” according to County Highway Commissioner Casey Beyersdorf.

At the Waupaca County Board’s July meeting, Beyersdorf introduced Logan and Chad McHugh.

Chad McHugh is a shop foreman for the highway department and his son, Logan, has provided ongoing aerial video of the facility’s progress.

Beyersdorf said there will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony in early November after staff have completely moved into the facility.
