Strategic plan on hold

Weyauwega-Fremont School Board stops process

The Weyauwega-Fremont School District is taking a break from its strategic planning process.

It has been working with Louise Blankenheim to develop a new three- to five-year strategic plan for the district.

Blankenheim, a retired educator, is an organizational consultant for the Wisconsin Association of School Boards (WASB).

The district hoped to have a new plan in place by the beginning of the 2019-20 school year.

Last month, board members Sandy Smith and Matt Betz expressed disappointment with how WASB has handled the process.

Smith also said she wants the district’s new administrator to have input in the process.

Phillip Tubbs was hired as the district’s new administrator on July 8.

He began his job duties on Aug. 1.

Drew Niehans, the district’s business manager, said they want Tubbs to settle in his position and look at what has been done so far.

Then the district will look at where it wants to go before reaching out to Blankenheim again.

Tubbs told the school board last month that ideally, he would like a three-year plan with goals.

The goals should then trickle down to each building.

Niehans also planned to follow up with Scott Bleck, the district’s former administrator, to see if he felt any frustration during the strategic planning process.

Bleck resigned as district administrator in early June to become the superintendent of the New London School District.

He started his new job duties on July 1.

W-F began its strategic planning process earlier this year.

The first meeting took place in February.

Gathering feedback from the community was discussed.

Other sessions were held throughout the spring.

The school board approved a five-year stategic plan five years ago.

A long-range facility study was one of the results.

HVAC projects followed and then the decision to address needs at the high school.

That plan expired on Jan. 1.
