Woman charged with forgery

Suspect accused of stealing $55,800


Laurie A. Bishop, 47, Clintonville, is charged with six counts of forgery uttering as crimes against an elderly person.

On July 8, Waupaca County Detective Sgt. Nick Traeger and Deputy Dave Huberty investigated a fraud complaint involving a 78-year-old woman.

They met with the victim and the branch manager at Bank First in Clintonville.

According to the criminal complaint, 19 fraudulent checks totaling $55,816 were written to “Lori Bishop” from 2017 to 2019.

The victim said Bishop’s husband was a former employee of her family farm.

When her husband died and the farm was closed in 2014, the Bishops agreed to do projects around her house.

The victim told investigators she loaned the Bishops more than $20,000 for a down payment on their home and loaned Laurie Bishop $6,000 for a vehicle, the complaint says.

Bishop faces up to six years in prison if convicted of forgery uttering.

She is scheduled for an initial appearance and booking on Aug. 27.
