Violet “Vi” Mae Westley, age 87, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 19, 2019.
She was born in Scandinavia, WI on July 20, 1932, a daughter to Arthur and Hazel (Simonson) Hansen. Upon graduating high school at the age of 17, she attended Wisconsin State College of Stevens Point where she received a two year Rural Education Degree. She went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Northern Illinois University and a Master’s Degree in Education from UW-Stevens Point. She was a teacher for many years. Vi married Donald Westley in Scandinavia on January 2, 1954. Together, for 38 years, they owned and operated Westley Heating & Air Conditioning.
Vi enjoyed staying active and traveling with Don. They enjoyed wintering in Texas for the past 10 years. She was an incredible baker, loved to read, and spending time with family was of upmost importance.
She will be dearly missed by her husband, Don, of Waupaca; her son, Kurt (Karen) Westley of Sheboygan and their children, Alex (Brandi) Clauff (daughter, Cecelia) and Emily Clauff (special friend, Ryan Eigenberger); and her daughter, Lisa (Todd) Mallasch of Waupaca and their children, Amanda and Braden Mallasch. Vi is also survived by a sister, Shirley Abrahamson of Waupaca and a niece, Ann (Nick) Blohm of Waupaca.
Vi was preceded in death by her parents; Don’s parents, Marrell and Alma Westley; and her brother-in-law, Harold “Bud” Abrahamson.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, August 24, 2019 in the Beach House at Chain O’Lakes Bar & Grill in Waupaca from 4-7 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated for Northern Illinois University, UW-Stevens Point, or AAUW. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Waupaca Elder Care as well as ThedaCare at Home Hospice.
