Sliced Pizza opens

New business in Scandinavia

By Holly Neumann

When the building located at 305 N. Main St. in Scandinavia went up for sale, Lisa Shirek saw an opportunity.

“In 2015, I had a Kombucha Brewery here, so I leased this space,” she said. “I fell in love with the building. At that time I approached the owners about buying it from them, but they weren’t ready to settle on a price, so we parted ways.”

When it came up for sale earlier this year, Shirek decided to make her move.

The building includes three retail spaces. She occupies one space to operate Sliced Pizza Company.

“There was this beautiful stone pizza oven that had been left in the building,” Shirek said. “I thought, why not. Everything was here and it all worked.”

For Shirek, this new opportunity seemed like all of her past careers wrapped up into one.

“I worked as a business consultant with the state, for small food businesses,” she said. “Having worked in restaurants earlier in my adult life, I am a good people manager, so I knew this was something I could do.”

Specialty toppings

Currently Sliced Pizza serves standard toppings and their house specialties.

“You can even build your own pizza to meet your own taste bud needs,” she said. “Everyone likes something different, here you can be very creative.”

All the toppings are purchased locally.

“This is where all the flavor comes from,” said Shirek. “The better the flavor, the better the pizza. I think it is important to be a health conscious business.”

Their crusts are homemade and hand tossed.

“We even have gluten free and Keto friendly crusts,” she said.

All the pizzas come with unique names.

“Our most recent was our Toast to the Corn Roast Pizza,” said Shirek. “It featured zucchini and corn off the cob.”

Their chicken barbecue and pesto pizza are currently some of the customer favorites.

“Every week we will feature two specialty pizzas to keep things interesting,” she said.

Sliced Pizza is currently open from 4-10 p.m., Thursday through Saturday. They can be reached by calling 715-467-2284.

They also have home delivery service within a 6-8 mile range, including Iola, Scandinavia, Amherst and Ogdensburg.

“We will go 10 miles, if we are slow,” said Shirek.

Sliced Pizza will have a grand opening on Sept. 7. Following the grand opening they will also offer soup, salads and appetizers.

Other businesses located in the building include Country Chic Boutique and Personal Touch Dog Grooming.
