“The Far Country” is one of several Westerns generated by director Anthony Mann and actor James Stewart.

The original screenplay by Borden Chase follows the adventures of a cattleman (Stewart) who attempts to get his herd up to the Dawson Gold Rush in the Yukon Territory of 1896.

Ruth Roman and Corinne Calvet portray the two women who try to assist Stewart in his enterprise, while John McIntire co-stars as a corrupt judge who tries to get the cattle for himself. Also in the supporting cast are Walter Brennan, Connie Gilchrist, and Kathleen Freeman.

The Technicolor picture was filmed on location in Canada’s Jasper National Park and released by Universal in 1955.
