Waupaca to host Little Falls

This year’s BABA Grand Championship game will feature the same two teams as the 2018 final.

Waupaca will host Little Falls at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 1, at Lakemen Field after both teams picked up shutout wins in the semifinal round Aug. 25. Waupaca handed Clintonville a 10-0 defeat, while Little Falls ended Birnamwood’s season with a 6-0 win.

Little Falls won last year’s championship with a 2-1 win over the Lakemen.

Waupaca will look for its 16th Grand Championship and first since 2017 and the Loggers will play for their eighth.

Waupaca also won championships in 1959, 1972, 1974, 1976-80, 1982, 1987-88, 1994 and 2010-11. Besides last year, Little Falls also won titles in 1992, 1996-97, 2007 and 2006-07.

Waupaca 10, Clintonville 0

Waupaca had 13 hits in the game, including Tyler Goggins’ three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning.

Jake Popham added three hits and drove in a run; Johnny Popham had two hits and scored twice; and Kyle Douglas had two hits and drove in a run.

Cam Seidl struck out 12 batters over seven innings to get the win, while Hunter Vollmer took the loss.

John Dunlavy, Ty Torborg and Jared Westphal had hits for the A’s.

Little Falls 6, Birnamwood 0

Drew Radies and Jenner Gullixon had two of the Loggers’ nine hits.

Chris Dunn scattered five hits and struck out eight batters to get the complete-game win, while Zach Bembenek took the loss.

Dunn, Kal Fischer, Kasey Morgan, Hunter Gruenwald and Seth Korb also had a hit for the Loggers.

Brady Erickson led the Kings with two hits, while Bembenek, Jacob Piotrowski and Jason Rieck added one each.
