Iola’s new village clerk

Aanstad replaces Johnson

By Holly Neumann

Betty Aanstad was looking for a change in her career.

So when the opportunity presented itself to become the new village clerk, she decided to apply.

“I felt it would be a job that I would enjoy and a lot of the skills from my previous job would be things that would make me qualified for this job,” she said. “I am looking forward to getting to know more of the people in this community.”

Aanstad is filling the position that was held by Dan Johnson for 37 years. Johnson retired earlier this month.

“I do have big shoes to fill with Dan’s retirement,” she said. “However, change is not always bad.”

The biggest assets that she brings to the position are her years of customer service and administrative knowledge.

“I started working at Krause Publications in the early ‘80s and have worked there for over 30 years,” she said. “I had the honor to work for Chet (Krause) and Cliff (Mishler) and know their families. With that experience I met and worked with so many wonderful people over those years.”

Aanstad has lived in Iola for more than 25 years and has two adult children who also live and work in the area.
