W-F’s Bartel wins girls’ race

Freedom won boys’ and girls’ championships Sept. 3 at the Thunderbird Invitational cross country meet at the Iola Winter Sports Club complex.

Team scores for the boys were Freedom (38), Winneconne (114), Pacelli (119), Stratford (129), St. Mary Catholic (174), Wittenberg-Birnamwood (176), Clintonville (178), Bonduel (194), Weyauwega-Fremont (214), Seymour (219), Lomira (270), Iola-Scandinavia (284), Amherst (351), Laona/Wabeno (404), Manawa (453), Marion (494), Oneida Nation (497) and Gresham/Bowler (511). Menominee Indian had an incomplete team.

Team scores for the girls were Freedom (37), Winneconne (50), Weyauwega-Fremont (132), Amherst (135), Lomira (146), Bonduel (161), Stratford (179), Seymour (187), Laona/Wabeno (210), Suring (275) and Iola-Scandinavia (281). Manawa, Marion, Tri-County, Pacelli, Gresham/Bowler, Menominee Indian and St. Mary Catholic had incomplete teams.

Weyauwega-Fremont’s Abby Bartel led area runners by winning the girls’ race in 19:41.23. The Indians placed two others in the top 15, as Katie Bleck placed sixth in 21:14.78 and Allison Halat finished 14th in 22:17.6. Other finishers for the Indians included Kaitlyn Monty (77th, 26:13.21); and Anna Bubolz (86th, 26:53.54).

Alyssa Tap placed 26th in 23:04.41 to lead Iola-Scandinavia in the girls’ race. Other finishers for the Thunderbirds included Briar Williams (69th, 25:32.42); Alyssa Grant (116th, 29:38.09); Lydia Johnsrud (118th, 29:50.43); and Tara Thompson (141st, 33:43.86).
Manawa had three runners in the girls’ race: Kate Phelan (106th, 28:47.46); Aspen Linjer (132nd, 31:54.56); and Andria Weber (142nd, 35:14.79).

Patrick Long turned in the fastest time for the Weyauwega-Fremont boys, as he placed 17th in 18:21.71. Other finishers for the Indians included Carson Kester (33rd, 19:15.47); Josh Halat (52nd, 19:59.77); Martin Leyva (61st, 20:13.85); Ethan Patzer (79th, 21:08.53); Logan Krause (86th, 21:14.42); Isiah Schuh (107th, 21:59.98); Jakob Mills (146th, 23:39.55); Exander Fletcher (159th, 25:18.96); Luke Ehrenberg (181st, 27:31.27); and Quinten Kempf (193rd, 30:18.71).

Dylan Donovan placed 48th in 19:48.25 to lead the Iola-Scandinavia boys. Other finishers for the T-Birds included Robert Vater (50th, 19:56.01); Jacob Lashua (59th, 20:11.8); Erik Grenlie (74th, 20:55.99); Ian Koss (96th, 21:31.02); Will Meier (169th, 26:08.84); Brandon Phillips (178th, 27:14.21); and Nick Louison (182nd, 27:38.99).

Justin Buschke led Manawa by placing 95th in 21:30.27. Other finishers for the Wolves included Zach Schertz (103rd, 21:49.52); Jacob Scheller (112th, 22:05.11); Ted Emmert (147th, 23:50.97); Hunter Schlueter (151st, 23:58.3); Noah Bortle (165th, 25:46.14); and Khir Thuecks (192nd, 30:12.17).
