Art tour in Manawa

Area shops host artists, musicians

By Holly Neumann

The Manawa Revitalization Committee will host the second annual Manawa Community Art Tour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, throughout the Manawa area.

“There’s a lot of traffic that travels the highway through Manawa, and we were looking for a way to get some of those people to stop and check Manawa out,” said Bob Beebe, Manawa Community Art Tour co-chair. “The Art Tour provides a means to do so, especially with the businesses hosting the artists.”

This year, 19 businesses will host more than 40 artists.

There will be with a variety of visual arts, demonstrations, music and a little culinary.

Attendees will be available to ride a vintage trolley, donated by Kolbe Windows and Doors.
“What we hope guests take away from this event is not only a fun experience from the day, but a greater appreciation of a wide variety of art and an elevated awareness of the community of Manawa and what it has to offer,” said Beebe.

Art tour brochures may be picked up at participating businesses on the day of the event.

“The information in the brochures will list the participating businesses and what artist(s) will be hosted at each,” said Beebe. “A map of the locations of participating businesses, with a key showing what businesses can provide a food option.”

The key will designate the 11 trolley stops.

The brochure will also list which businesses have a musician and their performance times, as well as the businesses hosting artist demonstrations.

“There will also be listed businesses that have food available that are not hosting an artist,” said Bebee. “Rather than have food trucks or vendors, we opted to promote the businesses in our community for the food needs for the event. We’ve spoken to the businesses and many have decided to take advantage of the opportunity and run a special for the day.”

Additional parking areas, other than the downtown streets, are also noted on the map.

The fun will continue with an “After Party” at 5 p.m. at the Manawa Steak House, 960 Depot St.

Music will be provided by Ivory Wind with Strings Attached.

Also taking place that day will be the second annual Pig Roast and Car Show, at Manawa Area Veterans Freedom Park.

The Pig Roast will begins at 10 a.m. with a cost of $10.

The car show will begin with 9 a.m. registration, followed by judging at 1 p.m. and awards at 2 p.m.
