Abrahamson in Hall of Fame

Friends of Clintonville Public Library nominate first inductee

Doris Abrahamson, founder of the Friends of the Clintonville Public Library, is the first inductee into the newly created Clintonville Public Library Hall of Fame.

When Abrahamson found conditions at the Finney Library crowded and frustrating, she organized a meeting in September 1985 that led to the formation of the Friends of the Library.

She served as the first president of the Friends group for two terms.

With a goal of $100,000, she and the Friends helped raise $157,000 for the new library.

She also helped start the Friends of the Library used book sale. The sale would travel between different vacant storefronts in town until eventually landing at its permanent location in the library.

The proceeds from the used book sales help fund programs for children and adults, prizes for the Summer Reading Program, technology, and other library costs.

Abrahamson spent most of her life dedicated to helping the Clintonville Public Library thrive, while also inspiring others to do the same. Whether it was setting up and promoting programs and services, or helping raise money, she was committed to pushing forward her dreams for the library.

For these reasons, the Friends of the Clintonville Public Library and the Library Board felt it necessary to honor Abrahamson and her commitment to the library.

The Friends of the Clintonville Public Library nominated Abrahamson for the Hall of Fame.

The Library Board created the Hall of Fame to honor individuals who have made exceptional contributions to area library service over a sustained period.
