Winchester Academy hosts Altino and Yu

Soh-Hyun Park Altino and Dr. Jeannie Yu will present “Faithful Geniuses: A Violin and Piano Recital in Celebration of Clara Schumann’s 200th Anniversary” at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23, at Danes Hall, 301 N. Main St., Waupaca.

Free and open to the public, the recital is sponsored by Winchester Academy of Waupaca.

Violinist Altino will be accompanied by pianist Yu in this program highlighting composers Clara and Robert Schumann, Johannes Brahms and Amy Beach.

Each piece has been chosen to illustrate the mutual affection between Clara Schumann and Johannes Brahms after Robert Schumann’s death.

A work by American composer and pianist Amy Beach will also be shared.

Altino

Altino is a teacher and a versatile performer of solo and chamber music.

Her concert engagements have taken her throughout the United States, as well as to Brazil, Colombia, Germany, Korea and Venezuela.

Praised for her “poise and precision,” she has appeared as soloist with the Memphis Symphony, Masterworks Festival Orchestra, Festival Virtuosi Orquestra in Recife and Suwon Philharmonic in Seoul.

Prior to joining the UW-Madison Mead Witter School of Music in 2015, Altino served on the faculty of the University of Memphis for 14 years.

She received her bachelor’s, master’s, and doctor of musical arts degrees in violin performance at the Cleveland Institute of Music.

Yu

Yu is a soloist, chamber musician, recording artist and educator.

She has appeared with the Flint Symphony, Portland Symphony, Des Moines Brandenburg Symphony, and the Xiamen Symphony Orchestra in China.

A dedicated chamber musician, she is the pianist of the Florestan Duo with whom she recorded Beethoven’s complete works for cello and piano.

Yu received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from The Juilliard School and her doctor of musical arts degree from the Peabody Conservatory of Music.

Winchester Academy

Winchester Academy programs are funded through sponsors and tax-deductible donations.

This program is sponsored by Georgia Calvo.
