Jeffry Glover, award-winning educator and author, is returning to Waupaca for the 25th annual Waupaca High School Grand Reunion Friday and Saturday, Sept. 20-21.

Glover who now lives in Stoughton, recently retired from his career as a language arts teacher, librarian and developer of reading products for libraries.

Since retiring, he has written over a dozen books of engaging poems and tales in verse.

Glover credits Waupaca High School for inspiring him to attend college and graduate school.

“My high school English teachers were especially instrumental in shaping my career,” Glover said.

He has already garnered a Robert Frost Foundation National Poetry Award.

The publisher Poems for Pleasure Press will release Glover’s first book of rhyming stories, 9 Lively Cat Tales and Other Pet Poems, on Sept. 24.

Glover grew up in Waupaca on East Union Street adjacent to Courthouse Square.

He lived above Glover’s Grocery Store, which was owned for many years by his parents, his uncle, and his grandparents before them.

His current book, 9 Lively Cat Tales and Other Pet Poems, is a collection of pet stories, both real and fanciful, about pet cats and wild cats and a few dogs.

Readers meet a cat who needs encouragement to take a bath, a clever math-whiz cat, a leopard on a shopping trip, cats with catitude, tigers, lions, a jaguar, a lynx, and many more whimsical animal characters.

An excerpt from the book can be found on the author’s website at www.PoetryPie.com.

The Waupaca High School Grand Reunion being held this week includes a banquet on Friday at the Par 4 Resort, and a casual get-together on Saturday at VFW Post 1037.
