Man accused of child abduction faces new charges

Dheeraj Kumar Upadhayay, 43, Clintonville, is charged with felony bail jumping and resisting an officer.

On Sept. 11, Clintonville Police Chief Craig Freitag and Officer Mark Zachow responded to a complaint at the Shell station.

A vehicle was there that witnesses said was driving all over the road on U.S. Highway 45.

Upadhaya was inside the store, and Freitag asked him to come outside for field sobriety tests.

After Upadhaya performed the tests, Freitag told him he was under arrest for operating under the influence.

According to the criminal complaint, Upadhaya refused to allow Freitag to handcuff him.

Freitag eventually escorted Upadhaya to the ground.

On June 24, Upadhaya was charged with forceful abduction of a child and burglary.

He was accused of pushing his way into another guest’s room at the Clintonville Motel and trying to grab a 3-year-old boy from his mother’s arms.

Uphdhaya was released from custody on June 24 after posting a $5,000 cash bond.

He was released from custody again on Sept. 16 after posting a $500 cash bond.
